Artist's Statement

A performance of Jazz Music challenged me to express my feelings about that music and that night. The intangible impact of sound waves and the waves depicted in Hokusai's artwork inspired my design. As I worked on my concept the waves began to resemble parts of instruments, the scroll of a violin or cello, the wires of a piano. Every element of music affects its impact; musicians, the instruments they use, listeners and the places that bring all these segments together. My artwork is an expression of these thoughts.
